2017 Pimba Syrah
Vintage 2017 in the Yarra Valley produced small, concentrated bunches with ripe tannins and crunchy acids - it will be remembered as one of the great years, with intense, brooding wines that will age for many years to come.
The Pimba Syrah vineyard benefited from the mild but sunny summer, cool nights, and warm air moving up the Yarra River to warm the deep Cambrian soils at this magnificent site.
Grown biodynamically, with fruit sorted in the vineyard at picking, the 2017 Pimba Syrah was vinified in a large single fermenter with indigenous vineyard yeasts, whole berries and 35% whole bunches, before maturation in neutral French hogsheads for 10 months.
Bright purple in colour. Raspberries & cranberries, with blue fruits and spice notes, the intensity of the vintage shines through immediately. Palate is full and bright initially, which gives way to a long and chewy finish, liquorice notes, and crunchy tannins.
Decant and drink now, or cellar until 2031, this Syrah is perfect for either.
